Introduction
Whether you’re talking about creating slides or speaking in public, giving a great presentation is not easy. It’s something that students, teachers, and professionals of all types struggle with. Here is a fun way to teach students how to make a great slideshow by first making an awful one.

Basic Lesson Plan
- Watch “Death By Powerpoint,” by Don McMillan (4 min). After each common mistake, stop the video, take notes and discuss. This sets the humorous, laid back tone for the rest of the lesson.
- Put students in groups of 2 or 3. Give each group a copy of a google slide deck. The goal for the groups is simple… make the worst presentation ever!
- Students choose a topic that they like or dislike and they must break 5 rules in their presentation (1 rule per slide).
- The last piece of this lesson involves student led presentations and student led feedback. However, there was one catch… students could not present their own slides!
- Choose 3 judges, time the presentations for 2 minutes each,
and let it go.
