What is an Eduprotocol?

EduProtocols are reusable instructional lesson frames that are designed to engage students in learning through critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and creativity. While the content of your lessons will change, the workflow of each EduProtocol stays the same, allowing students to understand the process in order to stay focused on the learning of the content.

There are currently dozens of EduProtocols whichare described in the three EduProtocol Field Guides available for purchase:

What is a Cyber Sandwich?

The Cyber Sandwich EduProtocol is a lesson frame in which students work in pairs or small groups to create a collaborative Venn Diagram. They record notes, compare and contrast topics, and summarize what they have read in this structured think-pair-share activity.

Step 1: Students 1 and 2 will spend 10 minutes independently reading the same selection. Students may use any annotation techniques used in class. Both students will enter their findings on slide 1 or 2 according to the color coding on the template.

Step 2: Students will spend five minutes discussing their findings with their partner and completing a Venn diagram together on Slide Two. What did you notice and what did I notice that was the same or different. (The goal is to deepen understanding of the article that was read.)

Step 3: Using the shared research and Venn diagram, each student will write his or her own paragraph summarizing the reading selection.

Step 4: Each team will take turns presenting their findings to the class, other groups, or a partner.

Modification: Students may read articles with contrasting viewpoints. They will then compare and contrast the two topics based on the information gathered on the slides.
